The series tells the story of an Ojibwe family’s history, spanning a century.

Children’s Books about Minnesota for Older Children
Land of the Buffalo Bones: The Diary of Mary Ann Elizabeth Rodgers, An English Girl in Minnesota, New Yeovil, Minnesota 1873, by Marion Dane Bauer
This Dear America book is historical fiction, but was based on a true historical experience of a group in 1873. (That is why it is listed as a “special edition” Dear America, because it is based on the family history of the author.)
This book is written by the daughter of a Baptist minister from England, who moves his congregration to the Minnesota Prairie. She experiences building a sod house, a plague of locusts, snows on Easter, and more. Her father is not well-equipped with all of the struggles in developing the new town, and gets voted out by the other townspeople. This book about Minnesota prairie life is targeted for children in grades 4 through 7, or ages 9 to 13.
